When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever….. (Pr 10:25).
Have you ever been hurt by someone? I have. Have you ever been tempted to store up bitterness in your heart towards that person? I have.
It is so easy to run towards anger and bitterness when we’ve been hurt by someone. We stew over it in our hearts time and time again. We cannot believe what they have done to us and so we recall it in our hearts, not in a redemptive way, but in a way that stores up hatred and resentment towards them.
The only way to set a person free is through grace. Without the grace of God, we cannot move into the place of freedom for our own hearts, away from anger over the injustice done to us. I have found whenever anger and bitterness want to weasel their way into my heart I must take my thoughts to the throne room of God and allow His love to cover them. I must allow God’s love to write a new song on my heart for the purpose of His praise and for the renewal of my own heart.
Ask yourself, what would stir up on your heart towards that person if you were to see them out in public? Would it be anger, hatred, or resentment? If it’s any of these, we must allow God to renew our hearts and minds. Truly, God will not let injustice off the hook. He’ll handle things His way and in His timing. We have one simple job in the matter- let it go.
I have found in my own life that the only way to renew my heart is to pray blessings over the life of the one who has hurt me. To speak life and peace through the love of God into my heart and mind when I think of that person. Then and only then can my heart be free to live in the love of God.
There’s a purpose God has for us in our pain. A problem arises when we keep hanging on to the person who has hurt us, allowing them to hold power over our lives. Until our hearts set them free through the love of God the message of what they have done to us or someone we love keeps our hearts in bondage. When we set them free to the Lord and entrust our situations with His justice we can live freely knowing that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose.
Jesus, I speak praise and blessing over those I’ve been hurt by. I speak joy and grace into their lives. Truly, you are a righteous and loving God. I release all pain, and misunderstanding to you. I give you praise for all things. Truly, you will take any wrong done to me and through your love you will redeem it and bless my life as I hold fast to you, in Jesus name, Amen.
