When My Life Came Crashing Down

and it fell with a great crash.”…. (Matt 7:27).
Not long ago, my life fell with a great crash. Mostly, because the foundation I had built it upon was fear. Jesus reminds us to build our lives upon a solid foundation. A foundation that is rooted and firmly established in His love. A foundation that does not waver in unbelief or give way to fear, anxiety and control. My life, was far from this foundation and the crash was great because of it.
I never thought I was the foolish builder in the parable. I always thought I was the wise one. The person who built their house upon the rock, who is Jesus Christ. Although He is my joy and my Savior, the circumstances of my life revealed something quite different about what my life was actually built upon. Indeed, I was the foolish builder.
Now, as I have been resting in the Father’s love, I am experiencing the fullness of who He is for me. Truly, He is a master builder. I do not want to go back to living in fear, so I’m submitting myself to the process of God’s rebuilding. It is a slow process, but something beautiful is coming forth because of it. I can sense it, I feel it deep within me, a new edifice that is being constructed in my heart for His glory. A new woman, coming forth as gold that has been refined through the fire to show off to the world the greatness of her Father’s glory.
We all go through crashes in life, we need not hide them, but instead, embrace them as
God’s gift to us to make us more like Him. Yes, they are terribly painful and yes they are things we’d much rather hide, but in doing so the edifice doesn’t shine as brightly because the story of His rebuilding is not put on display. Be thankful that something in your life has crashed. It is an opportunity for you to walk in humility with your Father so that He can make something beautiful out of your pain. Submit yourself to the master builder, be patient, and watch Him build something so great in you that you wouldn’t believe it.
Lord, thank you for your love in the midst of pain. Thank you that our crashes in life do not have to end in the pit, because truly, you are a great redeemer. Lord, let my life display your love and greatness to the world. I long for the world to see your love lived out it me. Lord Jesus, I long for you to be the truest thing about me, let it be so, I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.

  1. Heather — I love the way you weave God’s faithfulness into your life and your willingness to show humility. Today, when I felt the world “crash” around me, I cried out to the Lord, and the You Version Bible verse for the day is Psalms 42:11 (NCV): “Why am I so sad? Why am I so upset? I should put my hope in God and keep praising him, my Savior and my God.” An immediate answer to my prayer!
