“I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord….(John 1:23).
John had a job to do and it was to prepare the way for the Lord. John knew and understood his job because he knew and understood His savior. John had a big job, but he didn’t waver in fulfilling it, because he simply submitted himself to the will of HIs heavenly Father.
Many of us have been given a job to do from our heavenly Father. We hold within our hands a great purpose that has been entrusted to us by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The problem is, sometimes I drop this purpose to take up my own idea of what life should look like. We must remember that as John fulfilled his purpose, he was hated by others and ultimately, beheaded, although he’d done nothing wrong.
Sometimes the destiny that Jesus wants us to fulfill is one of suffering. This doesn’t mean that He hates us or finds some type of enjoyment in our suffering, but our suffering gives us an opportunity to put Him on display. Suffering changes you and if you’re willing to go with God, it can change you for the better.
John could have gotten mad at God because His calling was hard. He could have said he was done with it because his purpose and his destiny wasn’t turning out as he had hoped. Yet, John remained faithful till the end to His calling. You see, what God is looking for is people who are willing to simply be faithful, even to the point of death.
Lord, here I am, all of me. Thank you for how you have used suffering in my life to make me a new person. God, thank you for changing my heart. Please, Abba, make me more like you, I pray, in Jesus name that I might follow you wherever you lead me, Amen.
