They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”… (Jonn 1:38–39).
There’s something about Jesus that I need in my life. It is HIs presence. Without it, I’m sure to follow the wrong path and be led by my own ego towards my own ideas of victory and personal gain.
The disciples asked Jesus a simple question in John chapter one. Where are you staying? Isn’t this what we need to know from Jesus as well? So that we can follow Him wherever He is?
Jesus, I’m angry, but where are you staying? Jesus, I am being tempted into sin, but where are you staying? Jesus, I want to lash out at this person because of what they’ve done to me, but where are you staying? He’ll always show you where He is if you’d be willing to ask. Jesus stays in the places of peace, joy, hope, and serenity. He lands His heart in the room of forgiveness, reconciliation, and peacemaking.
You see, when we follow Jesus into these places we will find a need to no longer be in control. We can live freely knowing that in Christ, we have everything we need. Even when life doesn’t make sense.
So today, I’m asking Jesus where He’s staying, because I need His presence in my life. Without it, surely, I’ll fall into my own pits of captivity.
Lord, I long to live with you in the land of your freedom and joy. God, please forgive me when I place my heart along the road of my own patterns of sin. Lord, grow me up in Christ-likeness instead, I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.
